The International Symposium on the future of ICT and its Role in Shaping Modern Societies
To move the region forward, it is essential we make sustained investments in the knowledge economy, and continue to build up our own local, intellectual capital – in both today’s workforce and in our youth, the workforce of tomorrow. ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) are at the heart of the matter, but for many, it remains elusive on how to concretely embrace and capitalize on the opportunities they present, as well as the implication for our educational system. Many countries have been investing in ICT for Development (ICT4D) with some success and many failures. To add to the issue, the technology landscape is rapidly changing and creating new opportunities that are making previous investments unnecessary.
It is now the perfect time to learn from success and failures of the existing investments and projects, and to gain insight into the future of ICT. This will keep Kingdom of Bahrain on the path of continued leadership in technology, as well as support long term advancement and sustainability of the local economic and social development agendas.
For these reasons, University of Bahrain is delighted to host an exclusive symposium on the Future of ICT and its Role in Shaping Modern Societies.
This symposium will build on discussions that have been taking place with the UN, the World Bank, and various Ministers of ICT around the world, and the key issues and actions that have emerged. Field case studies will be presented to show different models in taking the national e-strategies to the field. A round-table discussion will follow each presentation.
